Overview

The Czech Ministry of Health, Czech Neurological Society and Cerebrovascular Section of the Czech Neurological Society have recommended the IKTA Stroke Register as a tool for evaluating performance of the Czech certified stroke centers. The existing information systems are inaccurate and do not provide data needed to perform valid epidemiological analyses. The IKTA register has been established after 1994 as a register compatible with the European Stroke Database (ESDB), was later updated and, based on a recommendation from the Ministry of Health, is now managed by the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses of the Masaryk University in Brno. The aim of this register is to obtain precise stroke-associated epidemiological data for the Czech Republic and to utilize this data in improving the care for stroke patients.

Key words:
register – stroke – epidemiology
